New Hampshire Weavers Guild

FALL EXTENDED WORKSHOP

Thursday/Friday ~ OCTOBER 20-21, 2011 ~ 9 AM — 4 PM

Norma Smayda ~ Weave Designs by Bertha Gray Hayes on an Overshot Sampler

Location: Kimball-Jenkins Estate Carriage House, 266 North Main Street, Concord, NH

This workshop features miniature designs created by Bertha Gray Hayes as we weave a Hayes pattern in an overshot sampler of about 16 treadling variations (or as much as time allows). Each participant will have a different pattern, will arrive at the workshop with the loom threaded and ready for weaving, and will stay on that loom for this workshop. We will weave 12 inch samplers in many treadling techniques. The results from each sampler are quite varied, despite the same treadling techniques. The asymmetrical designs and various motifs contribute to this. There will be enough warp on the loom for the weaver to weave a fingertip towel in the treadling of her choice. All work is on 4 shafts.

Cost: $130

Handout fee: $1.00 payable to instructor.

Ability level: Advanced beginner to advanced intermediate.

Class limited to 15 participants.

Equipment needed: A 4-shaft loom, warped and ready for weaving, with a Bertha Gray Hayes pattern. Shuttles, bobbins, scissors, tape measure and other weaving tools that you will need. Drafts and instructions will be mailed starting at the end of August.

Last day to sign up is at the September 21 guild meeting.
